Robot Recognition of Military Gestures CS 4758 Term Project

چکیده

The goal of this project is to have the telepresence robot recognize and follow military hand signals. These signals consist of commands such as Halt, Crawl Forward, Run Forward, Retreat, Flank Left/Right, etc. Upon recognizing a gesture the robot will execute a hardcoded response. The robot will be equipped with a Kinect sensor that detects the skeleton of a human. We have also coded a baseline classifier that treats each gesture as a stationary pose and then uses a geometrical KNN algorithm to predict the gesture. The baseline does very well at classifying gestures that are actually stationary and does passably well at classifying gestures that actually involve motion. Our actual system uses the fact that all gestures are relatively sinusoidal and extracts relevant features such as frequency and amplitude that are then used in an SVM to classify the gesture. We are able to consistently classify gestures with over 96% accuracy in randomized offline testing and the robot can recognize all 30 gestures on both arms with our live algorithm.

Recognizing Military Gestures: Developing a Gesture Recognition Interface

The field of robotics presents a unique opportunity to design new technologies that can collaborate with humans to solve interesting problems. This is especially important in cases where a task is too difficult or dangerous, such as war. This project serves to bridge a gap within the field of Human-Robot Interaction by presenting a robust gesture recognition interface that can recognize gesture...

CS 4758 Final Report Autonomous

Our project goal is to have the AR.Drone perform an autonomous object search in a known environment and return the location of the object being searched to the user. The environment is represented as an undirected, connected graph and mapped out a priori. Path planning depends on the history of where objects have been found in the past. The optimal path calculated assumes that the previous loca...

Project Description

Project Description: The proposal aims at developing a software service interface for natural-like interaction of humans with PR2-type personal robots. Natural-like interaction will be considered for communication (a model of hand gestures will be established that allow many natural gestures to be interpreted by the personal robot) and emulation of human skills, routine tasks (extracting reusab...

Ecological Gestures for HRI: the GEE Corpus

As part of a human-robot interaction project, we are interested by gestural modality as one of many ways to communicate. In order to develop a relevant gesture recognition system associated to a smart home butler robot. Our methodology is based on an IQ gamelike Wizard of Oz experiment to collect spontaneous and implicitly produced gestures in an ecological context. During the experiment, the s...

Controlling a Robot Using a Wearable Device (MYO)

There is a huge demand for military robots in almost all the countries which comes under the field of humancomputer interaction and artificial intelligence. There are many different ways of operating a robot: self controlled, automatic controlled etc. Also, gesture controlled operation mode is on the rise. This acted as our motivation to develop a gesture controlled robot using MYO armband. The...
